Children affected by HIV/AIDS face isolation and discrimination from their families and society. Many experience depression, anxiety, and grief. AOS provides children with counseling to help them develop mental and social coping skills. The children learn to deal with bereavement, depression, anxiety, social stigma and other psychological problems they might be experiencing. AOS also encourages them to face life with a positive attitude. With support from mental health doctors at the HuiLongGuan Hospital, a mental health program was developed to address issues in mental health though play and interactive activities. The program was held at the AOS Activity Center. The staff at AOS were trained to implement the mental health activities, and still continue to use the knowledge that they acquired in their everyday work at AOS. |
